Material Library
Before a silhouette is shaped, before a garment is cut, there is the material itself: its texture, its weight, its softness, its integrity, and the way it will live over time.
Our Signature Material: Genuine Suede
We built Lustré around genuine suede because it embodies the qualities we value most. It is soft yet enduring, luxurious yet wearable, refined yet deeply tactile. Genuine suede is a premium form of leather made from the soft underside of animal hide, known for its velvety texture, lightweight feel, and natural flexibility.
Unlike synthetic alternatives, genuine suede evolves. It responds to wear, movement, and time by developing nuance rather than losing appeal. This is central to our philosophy. We do not seek materials that remain static; we seek materials that grow more individual, more lived-in, and more beautiful through use. Read more about why genuine suede matters.

What We Look For in Material Selection
Every suede we work with is chosen for a combination of visual and technical qualities. We look for softness in hand, consistency in texture, strength in structure, and a finish that supports both elegance and longevity. Each hide is selected for uniform texture, strength, and exceptional softness, then thoroughly inspected before moving forward.
A material must do more than look luxurious in stillness. It must move well, wear well, and integrate naturally into a garment that feels balanced on the body. This is why our material selection is tied closely to silhouette in our atelier. The suede must support drape, structure, and comfort at once.
Texture, Weight, and Feel
Texture is one of the defining signatures of suede. Its matte, velvety surface gives it a softer and more understated elegance than polished leather, while still carrying the richness associated with true luxury materials. Suede is smooth to the touch, lightweight, flexible, and especially comfortable for garments intended to be worn across seasons.
Weight also matters. A well-chosen suede should feel substantial enough to hold its shape, yet light enough to move with ease. This balance is part of what makes suede outerwear so distinctive. It offers presence without heaviness and softness without fragility when properly selected and properly cared for.

Breathability and Wearability
One of the reasons we continue to work in suede is its natural wearability. Genuine suede offers breathability and comfort that support everyday dressing. For us, luxury is not only about appearance, but about how a garment feels over the course of a day and over the course of years.
Suede layers beautifully, feels supple against the body, and carries enough softness to make tailored silhouettes feel more approachable and lived-in. In our material library, wearability is treated as a standard of quality, not a secondary feature. See how this applies in our collection.
Durability and Patina
We believe the true measure of a material is how it endures. Genuine suede rewards care with longevity, maintaining beauty for many years when properly cared for. High-quality suede develops a unique patina over time, enhancing its character rather than diminishing it.
That evolution is part of the appeal. Small signs of wear do not necessarily take away from suede; they often deepen its individuality. This gives each garment a relationship to its wearer that feels more personal and less disposable.
Ethical Sourcing and Responsible Standards
Our material library is also shaped by responsibility. Our suede is ethically sourced and selected with longevity in mind. We work from the belief that modern luxury should be thoughtful as well as beautiful, which is why we connect sustainability not to trend language, but to durable materials, mindful production, and garments designed to remain relevant and wearable over time. Care as Part of Material Integrity
A material library is incomplete without care. Because suede has a delicate, velvety surface, it benefits from informed maintenance - protecting from moisture, brushing away dust, storing in a cool dry place, and seeking professional cleaning when needed. We see care not as an afterthought, but as part of craftsmanship extended into the life of the garment. Visit our Suede Guide for comprehensive care instructions.
